Mr. James Henry Eaton, age 88, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Thursday (October 31, 2019) at James H. Quillen Veterans’ Hospital in Mountain Home, Tennessee. Born February 4, 1931 in Honaker, Virginia, he was a son of the late George Reece and Dora Ward Eaton. A veteran of the United States Army, he had served during the Korean War. He attended Honaker Church of God for many years and had formerly owned and operated Eaton Grocery. A lifelong resident of the Honaker area, he had served as mayor from 1971-76 and as a councilman from 1968-71 and 1982-84. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, VFW, American Legion, and DAV.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Annabelle Street Eaton, four brothers, Carl Lee “Peanut” Eaton and wife, Nadine, Charlie “Shag” Eaton, Sam Eaton and wife, Dorothy, and Arthur Eaton, and one sister, Geraldine Thompson and husband, Cecil.
Survivors include five children, Cathy Honaker and husband, Paul of Abingdon, Cyndi Hale and Donald Hess of Cleveland, Angie McGlothlin and husband, Mike of Honaker, Jim Eaton and wife, Jennifer of Belfast, and Kim Breeding and husband, Jeff of Cleveland; special grandson, Brandon Cassell of Honaker; one sister, Helen Hillman of Bristol, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Ida Eaton of Honaker, Beulah Keen Dye of Rowe, and Betty Sue Woodward of Bristol; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Brandon Cassell and Rev. Arnold King officiating. Entombment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Military graveside honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia. Military escort will be provided by Fallen Warriors Motorcycle Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Sam McGlothlin, T.J. Hale, Hunter Eaton, Matt Honaker, Drizzt Johnson, and Iziah Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be David “Peanut” Eaton, Charles “Chuck” Eaton, Randall Hillman, Kester Street, and Bill Meadows.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Sunday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Paul Day and Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating.
