Mr. Lonnie Fay Sykes, age 72, of Honaker, Virginia passed away Sunday (September 22, 2019) in a Johnson City, Tennessee hospital. Born March 13, 1947 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Carlton Elwood Sykes and Florene Hubbard Sykes Rose. A lifelong resident of the area, he attended Swords Creek Community Baptist Church and had formerly been employed as a fork lift operator at E. Dillon and Company. He had served his country proudly in the United States Army and was a talented carpenter and fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Carlton “Jay” Sykes and one nephew, Terry Sykes.
Survivors include his wife of forty-five years, Geraldine Sykes of the home; two sons, Travis Sykes of Abingdon, Virginia and Wesley Sykes and wife, Amanda of Lebanon, Virginia; two grandchildren, Kaylee Sykes and Blake Sykes; one brother, Beverly Sykes and wife, Carrol; three sisters, Lenora Vanover and husband, Coy, Connie Rose and Henrietta Rose; several nieces and nephews and his precious fur baby, Sadie also survives.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Miller officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday in the Hubbard Cemetery in Honaker, Virginia. Military graveside honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at Honaker Funeral Home by 1:30 PM to travel in the funeral procession.
Pallbearers will be Travis Sykes, Wesley Sykes, David Miller, Blake Sykes, Kenny Dotson, Brett Oliver and Anthony Lowe.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Tuesday.
