Obituary for Shirley Helen Presley (Hess)

Shirley Helen Hess Presley, age 81 of the Hurricane Creek section of Vansant, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning (July 24, 2019) at the home of her daughter. Born January 22, 1938 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Roy Lee and Edna Mae Barton Hess. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of the Swamp Church at Hurricane Creek. A devoted Christian, she enjoyed reading her Bible and singing. She had been employed as a seamstress at Honaker Mills and had sold Avon for eighteen years. Her other hobbies include quilting, doing Garfield word search puzzles, birdwatching and making homemade chocolate candy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Elmer Arthur Presley; one sister, Ion Hess; brothers, Bernis Hess, Roger Hess, Larry Hess, Kenny Hess and Benny Hess; step-brothers Henry Hess, Harley Hess and Lucion Hess and step-sisters, Oakie Kennedy, Letha Grant, Marie Johnson.
Survivors include one daughter, Jennifer Owens and husband, Steve of Hurricane Creek; two sons, Lee Odell Stiltner and wife, Dee and Randall Stiltner and wife, Deborah both of Church Hill, Tennessee; grandchildren, Nathan Owens and wife, Sabrina and Heather Owens, Lee Stiltner, Jessie Stiltner, Adam Stiltner and Ethan Stiltner; niece, whom Shirley considered to be a daughter, Melena Edwards; grandchildren of the heart, Connor Edwards and Payton Edwards, who referred to Shirley as Mamaw; one brother, Bill Hess and wife, Betsy; three sisters, Juanita Presley and husband, Harry, Patsy Musick and Louise Lockhart; two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and five step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to thank Dr. J.G. Patel and his staff, the staff of Home Nursing Company in Lebanon, Virginia, Legacy Hospice, the staff of Virginia Medical, Lincare and the third-floor nursing staff of Buchanan General Hospital. Also, a very special thanks to Aunt Patsy Musick, cousin, Melena Edwards and David Powers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Luther Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be David Powers, Alex Presley, Allen Presley, Rick Presley, Leslie Edwards and Greg Lockhart.
The family will receive friends after 6 PM Thursday at Honaker Funeral Home where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating.
