Mack Aaron Smith, 71, of the Red Root Ridge section of Raven, Virginia, went to rest on Saturday morning (July 13, 2019). Born September 4, 1947 in Raven, Virginia, he was a son of the late Ballard Monroe and Virginia Gwendalyn Ratliff Smith. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church and had been employed as a truck driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jared Wayne Smith; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Darlene Smith and one brother-in-law, Eugene Short.
Survivors include four children, Mark Aaron Smith of Bandy, Virginia, Russell Lee Smith and wife, Priscilla of Corn Valley, Virginia, Valerie Kay Hale and husband, Charlie of Cedar Bluff, Virginia and Joni Ann-Marie Smith and fiancé, Robert Cochran of Richlands, Virginia; one step-daughter, Janie Marvella Smith of Abingdon, Virginia ; twelve grandchildren, Dustin, Jody, Courtney, Ashley, Lee, Ryan, Emily, Joseph, Jacob, Racheal, D.D. and Ethan; two step-grandchildren, Zachery and Timothy; nine great-grandchildren, Lisa, Jody Jr., Jarelynn, Madison, Maeleigh, Teagan, Jonah, Amelia and Alyssa; two step-great-grandchildren, Stanley and Dominic; three brothers, Milton Monroe Smith and wife, Linda of Social Circle, Georgia, Freeman Grady Smith and wife, Dreama of Paintlick, Virginia, Delmer Chester Smith and wife, Sandra of Raven, Virginia; one sister, Patsy Ann Short and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church at Red Root Ridge, Raven, Virginia with Elders of the Washington Association officiating. Interment will follow in the Simmons Cemetery at Red Root Ridge.
