Everett Conel Rose, Sr, age 85, passed away at his home on the evening of Thursday, July 4, 2019. Born on April 27, 1934 to the late Arthur B. Rose and Mollie Mae Keel Rose, he was raised in the Council area and enlisted in the Army in 1955. During his enlistment, he wrote letters to the one true love of his life, Ada. He revisited the Council area in January 1957 to wed his young bride. After a short forty-eight hours together, he returned to his base, Fort Polk in De Ridder, Louisiana. Soon, Mrs. Rose boarded a Greyhound bus and made the two-day journey to reunite with her husband. In 1958, the couple, along with their first-born baby girl, made their permanent home in Council and welcomed four more children to their family. During his life, Mr. Rose provided for his family through working in a coal mines, driving a variety of delivery trucks, and eventually owning his own coal trucking company with his son. Everett attended Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church in Combs Ridge. Mr. Rose leaves behind a family who has been blessed by his legacy of love, faith, and commitment.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Vernie L. Owens; two infant sisters, Glemma Delores Rose and Junie Rose; one infant brother, Jackie B. Rose; and his first-born daughter, Patricia Ann Rose Rasnake, who died in December 1995.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Ada Mae Harris Rose of the home; three daughters: Brenda Gail Stevens and husband Rufus of Lebanon, Loretta Lynn Peck and husband Johnny of Rosedale, and Pamela Delores Hale and husband Jerry of Honaker; one son: Everett Conel Rose, Jr. of the home; nine grandchildren: Melissa Ann Burke (Tim), Larry Edward Castle, Jr. (Amanda), Vanessa Gail Souleyrette (BJ), Jon-Everett Peck, William Brandon Rasnake, Everett Conel Rose, III, Arthur Lee Rose, Patricia Danielle Hale, and Courtney Jade Hale and fiancé RJ Hill; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 7, at 2:00 pm in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Dennis McGlothlin officiating. Interment will follow in the Ball Cemetery in the Indian Creek section of Combs Ridge.
Pallbearers include Tim Burke, Larry Castle, Jr., BJ Souleyrette, Jon-Everett Peck, Brandon Rasnake, Everett Rose, III, Arthur Rose, JJ Owens, and RJ Hill.
Honorary pallbearers include the men of Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 pm Saturday at the Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 pm. Dennis McGlothlin, Mountain View Freewill Baptist Singers, and granddaughters, Patricia and Courtney Hale will be singing.
