Emma D. Jackson Barton, age 89, of Vansant, Virginia, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday night at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Henrietta and Harold Hale.

Born in Russell County, Virginia on May 30, 1930, Emma was the daughter of the late Eli Preston Jackson and Mary Jane Jackson.
After graduating from Honaker High School in 1948, Emma began working as the school secretary and remained in that position until her marriage to Henry M. Barton. Emma also served as Postmistress of the Rowe, Virginia Post Office for several years. She and her husband were the owners and operators of several small businesses and she was instrumental in the day to day operation of said businesses until she chose to become a full-time mom and homemaker.
Emma was a faithful member of the Liberty Church of Christ where she was always in attendance of every service regardless of whatever else was going on in her life. Full of love for everyone, she never met a stranger and never failed to tell them about her love for the Lord. Emma was one of those rare people who only see the good in others and as such gained many friends in her eighty-nine years on this earth. She was loved and admired by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years and eleven months, Henry M. Barton; five brothers, Charles W. Jackson, Robert Jackson, Roy Jackson, Eugene Jackson, Roby Jackson; three sisters, Monnie Wilson, Roberta Hale, and Lola Crouse.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Henrietta (Harold) Hale, with whom she made her home for the last 15 year, of Vansant, Virginia, Barbara (George) King of Abingdon, Virginia, George (Lisa) Barton of Rogersville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Tia ( Lee) Joyce, Christy (Matt) Culbertson, Chesney (Chris) Mullins; four great-grandchildren, Emma Hensley, Carson Hensley, Lennox Lamberson, Brinley Mullins; four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Eura Lester of Honaker, Virginia; several nieces and nephews, her church family that she loved dearly, and a whole host of friends.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday (July 2, 2019) in the Honaker Funeral Home at Honaker, Virginia with Evangelist Jim Hill Officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 2:00 PM.
Micky Hale, Darrell Street, Dick Hale, George King, Harold Hale and Mitch Barton will serve as pallbearers.
Men of the Liberty Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM on Tuesday at the Honaker Funeral Home.
