Queenie (James) Hess, age 78, of Swords Creek, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. She was born March 28, 1941 in Pikeville, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Rufus and Myrtie Adams James. She had spent her early life in Pikeville, Kentucky, moving to Virginia thirty-five years ago. She was a devoted Christian and a member of Claypool Hill Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, H.L. Hess; her beloved son, Shawnell “Shawn” Hess; three brothers, Plennie James, Kennie James and Arvil James and one sister, Cinda Lou James.
Survivors include her son of the heart, Chuck (Heather) McNerlin of Tazewell, Virginia; three sisters, Lola Hess, Viola Williams and Lucy (Eddie) Combs; one brother, Klennie Howard (Opal) James; sister-in-law, whom she thought of as a sister, Deloris James all of Pikeville, ; one niece, Klarisa Shae Blankenship; six nephews, Ronald James, Darren James, Keith James, Chris James, Richard James, and Ross Jackson and a host of loving extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6 PM Friday at Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM.
