Mr. William Cole Rasnake, age 85, of Council, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (June 12, 2019) at his home. Born January 25, 1934 in Sandy Ridge section of Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Elbert and Alta Mae Presley Rasnake. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a longtime member and deacon of Mt. View Freewill Baptist Church on Combs Ridge. He had worked several years as a coal miner, but his greatest talent was carpentry, which he dedicated many years, his work leaving a legacy for others to admire. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, fishing, but most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Thelma Bostic Rasnake, two sister, Madeline Rasnake and Arbutus Ball, one brother, Marvin Rasnake, four infant brothers and sisters, daughter-in-law, Patricia (Rose) Rasnake, son-in-law, Luther Combs, and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Rae Thomas. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include ten children, Betty Hess and husband ,Richard, and Lonnie Rasnake all of Honaker, Ronnie Rasnake and wife, Deborah, Peggy Combs, Johnny Rasnake and wife, Lynn, Jeff Rasnake, and wife, Debbie all of Big A Mountain, Rick Rasnake and wife, Linda, and Mike Rasnake all of Belfast, Helen Viars and fiancé, Bruce Browning of Monaville, West Virginia, and Greg Rasnake and wife, Audrey of Combs Ridge; special caregiver, Kathy Hubbard; twenty-three grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Combs, Chris Rasnake, Brandon Rasnake, Willis Rasnake, Billy Rasnake, James Ball, and Charlie Bostic.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brady Harris, Harlis Harris, Matt Murphy, Shane Presley, Jeremiah Morgan, Chandler Honaker, Krayin Blankenship, Cedric Hale, Trenton Ball, Christian Justice, and Tyler Compton.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday.
