Mrs. Genell Presley Hess, age 82, of the Hurricane Creek section of Buchanan County, Virginia, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday (May 5, 2019) at the home of her oldest daughter in Raven, Virginia. Born June 6, 1936 in Pilgrim’s Knob, Virginia she was a daughter of the late William Hyter and Tiny Steele Presley. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Roy “Boss” Hess; one daughter, Freda Hess Fletcher; son-in-law, David R. Witcher; grandson, Jeffery R. Wilson and three brothers, Earnest Presley, Elden Presley and Elmer Presley.
Survivors include her children, Deborah Hess Wilson and husband, Edsel Paul Wilson of Raven, Virginia, Leshia Hess Witcher Adams of Davenport, Virginia, Michael Hess, Jr. and wife, Deborah Johnson Hess of Lebanon, Virginia, Kimberly Mary Lou Hess Thornsbury and husband, Ralph Thornsbury of Bristol, Virginia; son-in-law, Michael Vernon Fletcher of Davenport, Virginia; grandsons, Christopher Michael Fletcher and Melanie of Knoxville, Tennessee, Jesse Andrew Thornsbury and Ashley Powers Thornsbury, Zachary Aaron Thornsbury and Sally Anderson of Bristol, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Jace Mathew Neal Thornsbury, Jaxson Andrew Thornsbury and Airiynn Remedy Thornsbury.
Genell also leaves behind four sisters, Virginia Ruth Compton of Vansant, Virginia, Gaylene Presley of Davenport, Virginia, Millie Presley Harris and husband, David of Drill, Virginia, and Lola Mae Presley of Hansonville, Virginia; two brothers, Hyter Presley, Jr. and wife, Violet Lockhart Presley of Lebanon, Virginia and Delmer Presley and wife, Judy Shortridge Presley of Honaker, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews and her special pet, Tiffy also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Carl Burmeier officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Thornsbury, Zachary Thornsbury, Michael Fletcher, Wayne Rasnake, Joe Johnson and Clifford Presley.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Tuesday.
