Mr. Walter Duane “Pogo” Jones, age 63, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Monday (April 29, 2019) at Lebanon, Virginia hospital. Born June 30, 1955 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of Rosa Keen Jones of Lafayette, Louisiana and the late Walter Waymond Jones. He was a lifelong resident of the Honaker area. He was a 1973 graduate of Honaker High School and had proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He had formerly been employed as a Waste Water Treatment Operator for the town of Honaker and Lebanon.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife of sixteen years, Elizabeth Ann Jones of the home; one son, Larry Lee Tate of Bristol, Virginia; four grandchildren, Ethen Terrell Tate, Zachary Hunter Tate, Mackenzie Faith Tate, and Brayden Chase Tate; one sister, Mary Frances Hebert and husband, Paul of Lafayette, Louisiana; and one brother, Anthony “Tony” Jones and wife, Maria of Gainesville, Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Military honors will be conducted by the American Veterans’ Honor Guard of Richlands, Virginia and the DAV Chapter #31 of Tazewell County, Virginia.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Thursday at the Honaker Funeral Home, Honaker, Virginia.
