Mrs. Shelby Jean Snead, age 81, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Monday (March 25, 2019) in a Johnson City, Tennessee hospital. Born June 18, 1937 in Honaker, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Katherine Hess Cox. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1955 graduate of Honaker High School. A devoted Christian, she was a longtime member of the Honaker Church of God. She was an employee at David’s Grocery for over twenty years, where she always greeted everyone that entered with a smile. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading, but most of all spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Snead, one granddaughter, Krista Leigh Snead, brother-in-law, Cecil Crockett, and sister-in-law, Margaret Addison.
Survivors include two children, Terry Snead of the home and Alicia McGlothlin and husband, Scott of Honaker; two siblings, Wanda Crockett of Honaker and Larry Cox and wife, Nancy of Raleigh, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Casey Snead and Sarah Outen and husband, Chris all of Garner, North Carolina, and Ashlee Newberry and husband, Brandon of Rosedale; two great-grandchildren, Jaxson Outen and Macy Outen of Garner; brother-in-law, Mike Addison; several nieces, nephews, and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Larry Brooks and Rev. Stevie Hess officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Newberry, David Crockett, Chad Cox, Brandon Cassell, Billy Hess, Danny Clark, Stevie Hess, and Chris Outen.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday.
