Mr. Donald Woodward, age 70, of Bristol, Virginia, passed away Friday (December 7, 2018) in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born May 21, 1948 in Harlan, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Nobel Henry and Draper Lillian Lewis Woodward. A lifelong resident of the southwest Virginia area, he was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Abingdon, Virginia. He had previously been employed as a General Mine Foreman for Island Creek Coal Company VP 5 & 6 mines, and most recently owned DJ’s Tire and Auto Sales.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lexie Harless, and four brothers, Mike Woodward, Darrell Woodard, Harold Woodward, and Ricky Woodward.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, Betty Sue Woodward of the home; two children, Jennifer Woodward Proffitt and husband, Michael of Bristol, and Jeffery Donald Woodward and wife, Lisa of Rosedale; three grandchildren, Adrienne Harless Combs, Derek Woodward, and Ashley Woodward; two great-grandchildren, Alaric and Reign; three brothers, Larry Woodward and wife, Linda, Gary Woodard and wife, Lynn, and Randall Woodard; one sister, Wanda Miller and husband, Kermit; one God-grandson, Cody Peck; one God-great-grandson, Lincoln Peck; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Ronnie Blankenship; several nieces and nephews also survive
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Pastor John Price and Pastor Kevin Price officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Ed “Nutsey” Buchanan, Rick Yates, Robert Norris, Ronald Norris, Danny O’Quinn, Jr., Steven Deskins, Chris McCartney, and Cody Peck.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Saturday, where an evening Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
