Obituary for Patsy Elizabeth Sample (Wilson)
Mrs. Patsy Elizabeth Sample, age 83, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (July 26, 2017) at her home. Born September 23, 1933 in Ironton, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Bill and Charlotte Abel Wilson. She had spent most of her life in the area and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Honaker, Virginia for thirty-four years. A loving wife and mother, she was fortunate to be able to leave her job and devote her time to taking care of her children, while her husband worked to provide for their family. Patsy loved sports and could often be found in the stands, cheering for her favorite teams, Honaker Tigers and Virginia Tech Hokies. She was a member of the Honaker Library Board and the Women’s Ministry Union.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Jo Evelyn Delzell, and one granddaughter, Jacquelyn Sample.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-five years, Billy Ed Sample of the home; three sons, Eddie Sample and wife, Nancy of Wytheville, Barry Sample and wife, Juanita of Honaker, and Joel Sample of Rosedale; five grandchildren, Nathan Sample of Roanoke, Kelly Sample of Wytheville, Neil Sample and wife, Misty of Abingdon, Caleb Sample and Brandon Sample of Rosedale; three great-grandchildren, Halle Rose-Sample and Ashton Crigger of Wytheville, and Claire Sample of Abingdon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wade Taylor officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday at Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Sample, Neil Sample, Caleb Sample, Brandon Sample, Ashton Crigger, C.B. Yates and Gary Musick.
Men of First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 4:30 PM Friday.
